Duke had not looked so happy to be trekking into the woods in -- yeah, basically ever. He wasn't anti-woods by any means on a regular day, but the fact that he was heading into said woods, camping gear on his back, with a woman he ~~loved~~ really really liked and every intention of hanging out and doing all sorts of fun, sexy activities through at least tomorrow afternoon was definitely making this his favorite trip into the wilderness ever.

(That wasn't really a high bar. But still.)

If he was humming a sexy little tune as they walked, well. Could you blame him?

Octavia's didn't, thankfully. "Mmhm," she said. "Figured somewhere near it could be nice. Not right by it, but... in the general area."

"I bow to your authority, gona," Duke said. "You have way more experience out here than I do."

"Bow, huh?"

Sure, that she decided to make sound a little dirty. Or maybe that was just her low rasp doing its own thing?

"Anyway," she added, "I bring my experience with me on this trip, and you bring yours, and those -- what's that word? Complement each other." Another light shrug. "That's why we're such a great team."

"Bow," Duke confirmed, and yeah, he was definitely putting a little extra innuendo into that single syllable. "And we do, don't we?"

After his argument with Rey yesterday, being on the same page with her was a relief as well as a pleasure.

Octavia threw a little smirk his way, which probably confirmed her own shades of innuendo had been fully on purpose, too.

"We do," she said, her gaze back on the trees. There should be a small clearing somewhere around here... "I mean, I would go as far as saying you fit me."

"We definitely fit together very well last night," Duke agreed. "In multiple ways. . . ."

"Mm-hmm."

Sorry about the lengthy pause after that little hum. It was only because she took a moment to think very thoroughly about a few of those ways.

"Think we can find a few more today?"

"Already got a few ideas," Duke said. "And maybe we can revisit a couple of our favorites, too. Just as soon as we make camp."

He was uninterested in getting, say, poison ivy in any sensitive areas.

Yeah, Octavia also wasn't interested in letting their environment get too involved in things. Not more than it already was, anyway, thanks to the pollen.

... She actually had to give half a thought to how much of it originated right here in the preserve. But, oh well.

"Which we're not far from," she said. "We should be coming up on a clearing soon."

"Got the spot all picked out for us, huh?"

Octavia nodded. "If we're going to be here until tomorrow, it better be a good spot."

Some people put a similar level of care to getting nice hotel rooms. Octavia did this.

"Even if the odds are we're not seeing much of what's outside the tent."

"I believe we were going to at least try to go fishing tomorrow morning," Duke noted. "But . . . we've got a hell of a lot of time until then."

And he definitely wouldn't be averse to cuddling under the stars, so long as they had some nice ground cover first.

"Exactly."

Looking up ahead, Octavia picked up her pace some, her gaze flicking around like she was reading the forest again. And, not long after at all --

"We're here."

It was a much smaller clearing than the one she'd brought him to before, the one that housed her makeshift traget practice range. This one was just about perfect for a small camp set-up: there was enough of a stretch of even ground that would be good for a tent, and the trees were still close enough to shield them.

Duke looked around with a grin. "Cozy," he said. "It's perfect."

Octavia smiled pretty wide at that.

"Right?" she said. "I've kind of had my eye on this for a while."

"Oh yeah?" Duke slung his pack off his shoulder and set it down, then reached over to pull her in close. "For these particular purposes? How long have you been planning to ravish me, huh?"

Octavia resisted just long enough to get her own backpack on the ground, then allowed herself to be pulled in, with a little laugh.

Being close to him was not a hardship.

"Oh, obviously longer than you know."

"I'm beginning to think you seduced me," Duke said, leaning down to take up the same track along her jaw and neck he'd started at the club last night. "I definitely think I'm okay with that."

And Octavia exhaled a pleased sigh at the very first touch of his lips on her skin, tilting her head away to give him more room.

Not that she wasn't still going to sound amused as she said, "The part where you think seducing people is one of my skills... is really flattering."

Duke chuckled against her skin. "Beginner's luck?"

"Probably," Octavia allowed. Her hands were roaming around restlessly for a moment until they settled at his hips, for now. "I mean, I thought seduction was a thing I knew how to do for a moment, once, but that was a long time ago. Now I think I was just stubborn."

Because that was how she attacked a lot of things she didn't actually know how to do.

"Stubborn is good too," Duke said, continuing down her neck as far as he could. "Stubborn can count for a lot."

He might need to be stopped before he managed to forget the "making camp" part of this plan completely.

Octavia was also willing to let him maybe travel up the other side again before saying anything about it, though, because she was only human.

"Stubborn worked on you, at least."

"It did," Duke agreed. He spent a moment trying to push the edge of her shirt aside with his nose. "Pretty damn effectively."

That was actually kind of adorable. And also almost tickled, which explained the soft laugh.

"Snogon," Octavia murmured, with no small amount of fondness. "Should we maybe pitch the tent before you pitch one of your own?"
