Duke had not looked so happy to be trekking into the woods in -- yeah, basically ever. He wasn't anti-woods by any means on a regular day, but the fact that he was heading into said woods, camping gear on his back, with a woman he ~~loved~~ really really liked and every intention of hanging out and doing all sorts of fun, sexy activities through at least tomorrow afternoon was definitely making this his favorite trip into the wilderness ever.

(That wasn't really a high bar. But still.)

If he was humming a sexy little tune as they walked, well. Could you blame him?

Duke tossed her a stake -- little metal suckers with hooked tops to keep the loops secure. "Still pretty sure we could make bad puns about anything this week. But this is pretty low-hanging fruit."

. . . Mmm, fruit.

Duke pounded his stake in -- yep -- and moved to the next corner. "So . . . other than fishing. What were you planning for this trip before, you know, Fandom happened?"

Octavia sighed like she it took actual effort to remember. "More wildlife, at least," she said after a moment spent on the stake. "Like maybe trying to sneak up on some deer, or even an alot. Just to see them."

She had a fondness for the animals around here, could he tell?

She could probably manage to summon an alot of love without too much trouble? And they were already working on an alot of tent puns.

"That would've been fun," Duke said. "Suspect we'll have some trouble keeping quiet enough this time, though." Just looking at her sometimes made him want to groan with pleasure, after all.

Octavia snorted as she moved over to the final corner. "Probably," she agreed. "That just means we have to come back sometime, though."

"Pretty sure that can be arranged," Duke said. He finished his corner and pushed to his feet, looking over the tent approvingly. And Octavia even more approvingly.

"Looking good," he said. He was not looking at the tent when he said it.

Somehow Octavia was not at all surprised to note that when she looked up.

Her smirk was crooked.

"Mochof."

"De nada." Duke let his eyebrows bounce a little. "Wanna grab the sleeping bag and break this puppy in?"

Octavia drew in a big breath of cool February air as she straightened up. Seriously, even without every other part of this, she belonged out here so much more than she did in any apartment back in town, it wasn't even funny.

It probably added something to her smirk as she went to grab her backpack off the ground.

"Just guess how badly."

Duke beamed. He grabbed his pack and tossed it inside. The tent itself wasn't quite built for playfully flinging oneself into place, the way a bed would be, but he did his best anyway.

He was a giant dork. He knew that, right? Octavia barely knew the word 'dork' and yet she knew that.

She was a little less exuberant about her entrance into the tent. In fact, first she just peered in after him with an amused look as she tossed her backpack in first.

"You're ridiculous," she informed him as she crawled in herself. "But you look... appetizing."

Duke leaned his head on his arm and patted the tent floor next to him. "I'll take it."

Octavia huffed another amused noise, but pushed her bag aside and sretched out next to him. Or against him, whatever.

Close enough to drop her voice way soft and quiet, as she smiled at him from her very close proximity. "Ha yun, ai fanas snogon."

"Fanas," Duke echoed slowly, rolling the word off his tongue. "Don't know that one yet."

He had a few guesses, though.

"It means you're hot." A beat. "Okay, sexy. Use it wisely."

She knew how he'd delighted in using meizen before he'd even had much other vocabulary to go with it.

"Oh really." Duke leaned over to plant a kiss on Octavia's temple. "Yumi ste sehr fanas ogeda," he said.

. . . She was going to have to teach him the Trig for 'very' at some point. Or just accept that he was going to smash German into his sentences now and then.

Octavia might even do so just now! Because she remembered hearing it from him before, and somehow still retained enough presence of mind to ask.

"Okay, what's sehr? Is it 'really'?"

"'Very'," Duke said. "It's German. That's one of the first languages I picked up, so I, uh. Tend to default to it if I'm not using English."

Octavia nodded. That made sense to her.

"In that case..." She leaned in, to press a teasing kiss just off to the side from his lips. "Sha, jaka. Yumi ste krei fanas ogeda."

Duke nodded, reaching over to run his hand up her side. "Krei fanas. Krei meizen."

Octavia exhaled an oddly shuddery breath against his cheek before pressing another kiss there.

"Teaching you Trig was the best decision I made last year," she murmured.

Duke sighed softly, slipping his fingers beneath her shirt. "Oh yeah?"

He'd noticed how much she enjoyed him using it. He'd have to be blind not to.

"I'm a fan, too."

Another kiss, this time more towards his jaw.

"It makes me feel less alone."

She might not normally have put it as bluntly. But his touch was distrating, and so it slipped out, almost idle.

Duke tilted his head to give her more room, sliding his hand up towards her ribs.

"I'm glad. You should only be alone when you want to be."

After that shift, his neck clearly needed her attention, and so she trailed kisses down it. But, slowly.

"I should, shouldn't I?"

Hadn't always worked out like that.

Duke was -- currently -- enjoying her taking her time. His fingers stuttered a little against her ribs as she hit a particularly sensitive spot.

"Should be a rule," he breathed. "Tavis are only alone by choice."
