As tempting as it was to just stay in their little vacation bubble at sea, Duke and Octavia did have things to do back in Fandom now that the school break was over, so the Cape Rouge chugged back into port in the late afternoon to dock at her usual slip.

It was immediately beset by porgs.

"Alright, alright," Duke said, a laugh underlining the exaggerated annoyed tone of his voice. "I know, I know, how dare I exile you from your homes. I'm a cruel, cruel man."

Octavia shrugged because really, people.

"So I've been booted out of the Perk twice."

Only once for throwing weapons, though.

"I mean, if you need someone to help flirt your way back in," Lucifer offered. "Or more."

Oh god, Lucifer, don't offer to sleep with baristas just so she can get coffee.

"I can go in," Octavia replied with a tiny huff. "I just make sure he's not there, first."

"Which one is it?" Lucifer asked. "Because really, it's no trouble."

Yeah, Octavia raised her eyebrows some.

"You really don't need to do whatever it is you're offering to do just for my coffee."

"True," Lucifer said, grinning brightly, "But it might be a fun challenge."

"I'm not going to tell you which one it is," Octavia drawled, as she went to sit down on a nearby crate.

Technically, she was supposed to be leaving. She had her bag with her and everything. But leaving the Rouge never came easy to her, these days.

"That sounds like risking getting banned for good."

"Octavia, please," Lucifer said, recoiling dramatically. "I was only offering to sleep with the man, not throw a knife at him."

"Still," Octavia replied, heavy on the raspy drawl.

"I have never," Lucifer said primly, "Left anyone unsatisfied."

"I'm sure," Octavia replied, sounding awfully sarcastic for something that actually wasn't. "Just seems like one of those things where just you offering could make him lose his shit again."

"What, is he some mad Duke-worshipping stalker?" Lucifer asked. "Is that it?"

"Probably not," Octavia relented with a little eye roll as she leaned back against her hands. "I think he just thinks I'm a psycho --" Getting called Crazy Knife Girl had kind of stung. "-- and Duke sucks because a mistletoe kiss didn't mean anything."

Lucifer sighed. "Really?"

Octavia shrugged.

"Probably."

"Why do humans always make these things so bloody difficult on themselves?" Lucifer said.

"Because it's the only way we know how?" Octavia offered.

With some irony, yes.

"Your lives would be so much easier if you didn't keep getting so caught up in who was dating who," said Lucifer, completely ignoring the fact where some of their recent arguments could've been construed as such.

Octavia didn't miss it. You could sort of tell by her dry little, "M-hm." Though he probably couldn't, considering he didn't catch it even as he was saying it.

"Yeah, it's weird how that's so important to some."

"One kiss doesn't make a relationship," Lucifer said, "Or I'd have hundreds of girlfriends. It'd be a massive pain."

"What, there's something great Lucifer can't handle?"

"I enjoy being a perpetual bachelor, thank you," said Lucifer, which was a lie, but he was trying to convince himself very badly that it wasn't one.

Octavia wasn't going to poke at it - this time, anyway.

"Sure," she said. "Though I think having hundreds of girlfriends sounds about the same as being a bachelor."
