Nathan | Nathan Wuornos had had better days. Better weeks. Better months than the last six had been. He was on the run, hunted by the Guard in general and Jordan McKee in particular, in revenge for wooing her and breaking her heart. And for killing Howard, destroying the Barn, getting Audrey and Duke both killed and ruining all hope of the troubles ever ending again. That too. Nathan was not well suited to living on the run. He was a homebody at heart, and had never held down a job other than the one at Haven PD. Luckily, he had another skill to fall back on. One that made for an excellent method of self-punishment while he was at it. The burly biker slammed his fist full force into Nathan's jaw, and Nathan didn't even flinch. Why should he? It wasn't like he could feel it. He would never feel anything again. "Man, you're one crazy dude" the biker said, slapping money into Nathan's outstretched hand, "but yeah, that felt great!" "Cheaper than a shrink," Nathan muttered, counting the cash and spitting a bit of blood on the ground. "Alright, who's next?" |
Lucifer | Lucifer pulled the Rolls Royce into the parking lot with a too-fast turn and a frown. "Isn't that your moronic ex taking a beating over there?" He hit the brakes. |
Octavia | Octavia squinted at the bikers and -- Yeah. Nathan. Looking like shit, and like he was up to something stupid, but alive. Which Octavia felt gave her permission to roll her eyes and mutter, "Oh, here we go." |
Duke & Jennifer | Duke climbed slowly out of the car. Jennifer rushed to follow him, gaping. "That's your friend?" she asked Duke. "Don't you think you should stop him?" Duke grimaced. "The thing is that -- I mean, Nathan and I have --" He flinched sympathetically when Nathan got socked by the next biker, even as Nathan didn't blink at all. "-- A complicated relationship." |
Lucifer | Lucifer hopped out over the car door, sticking his hands into his pockets. "Oh, I'll talk to him," he announced. He didn't wait for an answer as he stalked across the parking lot to the man currently taking punches. He reached into his pocket for a bill on the way. |
Octavia | Octavia was the last to get out of the car. Possibly the most openly wary, too. And that was before Lucifer went cruising towards going full Lucifer. |
Nathan & Jennifer & Duke | "Alright, hang on, I need a break," Nathan called, picking up a bottle of beer, none the wiser to the celestial gleefully approaching. Jennifer looked wildly from Lucifer to Duke, her eyes wide. Duke held out a hand to keep her from approaching, and watched to see what Lucifer had in mind. |
Lucifer | "You there," Lucifer called. He had a crisp hundred-dollar note already in hand. "Are you the fool who can't feel anything?" |
Jennifer & Duke & Nathan | "What's he doing?!" Jennifer hissed. Duke shrugged, his lips curving faintly in an unconscious smile. "Being Lucifer." Nathan half-turned, but didn't really look back at them. "I said I needed a break." "I would've suggested Jamaica," Duke called. Nathan's eyes went wide, and he turned. |
Lucifer | Lucifer beamed at him in a way that didn't reach his eyes and punched him. He was being a good Devil, all right? He was keeping his strength at a regular human level! |
Octavia | Octavia winced, more out of reflex than sympathy. Although there was something about this scenario that felt... uncomfortably familiar to her. |
Nathan & Duke | Nathan's head rocked back, but then he just scowled and snatched the bill off Lucifer. "I said 'I need a break'." "Don't mind him, Nate," Duke said, actually approaching this time, and Nathan's expression lit up. "Luce doesn't much like Maine." "Hah," Nathan breathed, grinning through his He had never looked so happy to see Duke before in his life. It was disconcerting. Duke smiled back. "Nathan," he said, hoping to see a bit more of the guy he actually knew on that scruffy face, but then Nathan was tugging him into a tight hug, which -- Duke wasn't sure that had ever actually happened before. "You smell," Duke said, the only thing he could think of to say. "Bad." |
Lucifer | Lucifer adjusted his jacket as he watched the both of them-- hug. "Well, now that feels slightly less satisfying," he said. He raised his voice. "We still think you're an arsehole!" |
Octavia | Octavia had nothing to add to that. So she glanced towards Jennifer. She hadn't run off yet, had she? |
Nathan & Duke | "I thought you were dead!" Nathan said, pulling back, still grinning, his hands fisted in Duke's collar now. Which was close enough to a stranglehold for it to put Duke on slightly more familiar ground. "Yeah, well. I had other plans." "Audrey," Nathan breathed, pushing past him and scanning the parking lot. Jennifer, frozen in place, offered a shaky wave. Audrey was, of course, nowhere in sight. "Nathan," Duke tried, but Nathan was nothing if not laser focused at all times. "Where is she? Where's Audrey?" |
Lucifer | "Not presently here, possibly dead, possibly not," Lucifer said, as he stalked towards the two. Teary reunions was one thing, getting all weird on Duke over bloody Audrey was another. "We're here to figure that out, so for the love of-- well, me-- calm your bloody impotent tits, will you?" His hand landed on Duke's arm. This couldn't be uncomplicated on the man. |
Nathan & Duke | It was so very very complicated, yes. Nathan gave Lucifer a vaguely baffled look, even as he kept scanning the parking lot, as though Audrey would pop up from behind a car yelling "surprise!" Duke hadn't missed this side of Nathan. "This is Lucifer," he said, nodding in Lucifer's direction. "My boyfriend. You remember Octavia, our partner, and that's Jennifer. She's troubled." "Hi," Jennifer said. "This is all extremely weird." |
Lucifer | "Mostly it's just incredibly annoying," Lucifer said. "Mind giving us the cliff's notes of how you wound up playing a particularly dull version of Russian Roulette in a parking lot? Oi--" Sorry, Nathan. You were definitely getting grabbed by the lapels just for a light shake. "Just making sure you didn't break up in the head." |
Octavia | "Lucifer," Octavia said, too mild to be any kind of a warning or a plea. But still. She eyed the bikers. |
Nathan & Duke | The bikers gave zero shits. Other than watching with interest. This was better than a soap opera! Nathan let Lucifer shake him. Now that he'd confirmed for himself that Audrey wasn't here, he was only looking at Duke again. "I thought you were dead," he said again. "I thought -- I thought I'd sent you to your death. Got both of you killed." "Whelp." Duke shrugged. "You didn't. Congrats?" |
Lucifer | "Hello," Lucifer said flatly, "Am I invisible? Can you hear me talking?" Don't make him (try to?) mojo you, Nathan! |
Nathan & Duke | "Yes," Nathan said shortly, jerking free of Lucifer's grip. Still looking at Duke. "What happened to you? After you went in the Barn it vanished like -- it was never there. I made it back into town just as the last of the meteors were coming down. It was chaos." "I couldn't find Audrey," Duke said, shrugging, like thinking back on that wasn't messing with his head all over again. (Like this entire situation wasn't messing with his head on so many different levels already.) "The whole place was falling apart. I was only in there for maybe a few seconds, then the floor went out from under me and I landed in Fandom. Been there for the last year." "Year?" Nathan shook his head. "It's only been six months." "Yeah, I'm guessing between Fandom and the Barn our timelines are just never going to line up again." |
Octavia | "Are you three aware we have an audience?" Because that didn't seem ideal to Octavia. |
Lucifer | "Who cares," Lucifer said tersely. He paused. Then glanced over his shoulder. "Do you care what we're doing here?!" |
Duke & Jennifer & Nathan | The bikers, catching the look on his face, all became very busy doing other things. The crowd in the lot thinned out until only the five of them were left. "Jennifer could hear what happened in the Barn," Duke was telling Nathan, letting Lucifer and Octavia handle the crowd. "Howard talking to Audrey, me yelling for her, all of it." "I thought I was crazy," Jennifer said, looking from Lucifer to the bikers distractedly. "Still not convinced I'm not." "You're not," Nathan said shortly. "I'll get cleaned up. And you all can tell me everything on the way to Haven." |
Octavia | Octavia glanced back at the car, then at their little group here. Did some math. And muttered, dryly, to herself, "Great." |
Lucifer | "Duke can sit in your lap," Lucifer said helpfully. "Unless we want to make Nathan ride in Jennifer's, I can go either way." |
Jennifer & Natthan & Duke | "Should've taken my SUV," Jennifer muttered. Nathan frowned at the car. "Came all the way here in that?" "Luce likes his luxury," Duke said, shrugging. "I take it you don't have wheels of your own?" Nathan just scowled and stalked towards the car. "Someone can sit on me. Won't feel it anyway." |
Octavia | "Yeah that's really not the issue here." Was that loud enough to actually be audible to people other than her? Whoops. |
Lucifer | "You can be Jennifer's chair and keep your mouth shut as much as possible," Lucifer said, wandering back towards the car. The engine started purring again on its own. |
Jennifer & Nathan & Duke | "Um," Jennifer said, raising her hand. "Do I get a vote?" "It's fine," Nathan said. "I really don't mind." "Not actually the problem here!" "I could always steal us a second car," Duke offered. Nathan shot him a look. "Oh, what, because making money by getting bikers to punch you is so much more ethical?" |
Lucifer | "Oh, should I just turn on another car for him?" Lucifer said, pointing at something tiny and lumpy. "Because I can do that." |
Nathan & Duke | Nathan continued to glare at Duke, but didn't seem to have further objections to car stealing. "Duke, you drive. Jennifer and I can talk on the way." Duke snorted. "Sure, Nathan. Would you like me to do that favor for you? No problem. You know you only have to ask." |
Octavia | That sounded an awful lot like someone was expecting Octavia to let Duke out of her sight without Lucifer there, either. Hell, she wasn't even feeling entirely comfortable with the idea of letting Jennifer ride alone with Nathan. "That's not happening." She didn't sound like she'd entertain anyone disagreeing with her. |
Lucifer | "You and Jennifer can ride in one car, we'll take the other," Lucifer said flatly. "The nice one." |
Jennifer | Jennifer continued to look deeply uncomfortable. She leaned in closer to Octavia. "Please don't make me ride with him alone. He's kind of creepy." |
Octavia | Well, that took it right from 'not entirely comfortable' to 'not comfortable'. "I know," Octavia told Jennifer in a hushed - if still dry - tone. Then, louder, she told the others, "I'll go with Nathan and Jennifer." |
Lucifer | "I'll allow it," Lucifer decided. It was Octavia. She'd be able to handle it in a way Duke could not. Which was to say-- "Octavia, hit him if he tries anything." |
Octavia | Octavia gave him a mild look that said 'duh'. But, you know, in a reassuring way. As little as hitting Nathan actually did. |
Jennifer & Duke & Nathan | Jennifer gave her a soft "thank you!" and Duke reached over to give her a squeeze, expressing the same thing. Nathan tried not too look too impatient. He didn't care who rid with whom, so long as it all ended up giving him his Audrey back. |
Jennifer | "What a cute little town!" Jennifer said as they caravanned up into downtown from the beachside highway. And she meant it! You know, until they turned a corner and saw the armed militia blocking the road, a very angry looking goth chick with a shot gun leading the way. |
Duke & Jordan | Duke leaned forward in the passenger seat of the Rolls Royce, ignoring the Guard member aiming a gun at him through the window in favor of Jordan, aiming hers at Nathan in the car in front of them. "I really didn't miss this place." "Hello, Nathan," Jordan said, loud enough to be heard from both cars. "Get out of the car." |
Lucifer | "Hello, Havenites," Lucifer chirped cheerfully. "Please take your gun out of my boyfriend's face before I snap it in two, thank you." Not that he was giving them that kind of time, leaning over Duke to grab the gun as he was. |
Havenites | "The fu --" the Guardsman started, as the gun was yanked from his hand. Duke took the opportunity of his surprise to open the door sharply into the man's legs, knocking him back a step. "Hey!" Jordan shouted from the car in front. "Is that Crocker? We'll get to him next." "Nice to see you too, Jordan!" Duke said, overly brightly. "Still . . . breathing and everything." He didn't think he'd have been too sorry if he'd managed to kill her, last time he was here. Nathan was climbing carefully from the lead car, his hands up. "Jordan. Can we talk?" |
Octavia | Octavia, looking absolutely fed up with Haven being so Haven this early on, was also getting out of the car. With her hands up, yes, not that her concealed knives were far from reach. (She knew she should've brought the sword.) "Stay behind me," she muttered to Jennifer. |
Jennifer & Duke | Jennifer, all of 5-foot-not-much, was already doing so, yes. “Who is that woman?” she asked. “Jordan McKee,” Duke said, edging his way over to them. “She and Nathan used to have a thing but — then he dumped her and I shot her and the whole thing got weird.” “. . . Oh.” |
Lucifer | And Lucifer hopped over the car door and onto the asphalt. He, predictably, didn't look too fussed about any of it as he sauntered towards the lady who seemed to be in charge. He was not holding his hands up. "Now can we stop waving the guns around?" he said. "I mean, it won't hurt me, obviously, and Mr. Romance Novel over here may be a touch on the suicidal end, but all the shouting and the iron is all a bit much, isn't it?" |
Jordan | Jordan glared at him. “Who the fuck are you?” |
Lucifer | "Lucifer Morningstar, pleasure to meet you," Lucifer said, sliding one hand into his pocket while he gestured at Duke with the other one. "I'm his boyfriend, the woman who's glaring at you is our partner. We'd like to keep heading onwards into what even I can only describe as a 'hellhole', and you're making a bit of an unnecessary nuisance out of yourself." |
Octavia | Octavia was not so much glaring as she was squinting. She was trying to place Jordan. Something about her looked familiar... |
Duke | Jordan opened her mouth for another angry reply, but before she could speak, another car pulled up. Dwight stepped out of the driver's side, wearing a bullet proof vest and a police badge, while Vince and Dave got out the other side. Duke shot the shorter man a glare. "Way to keep a secret, Dave!" he hissed. "Believe me, you're glad we're here." "Oh yeah, it's going splendidly so far!" |
Lucifer | Lucifer brightened. "Well, if it isn't the big fuzzy lumberjack," he called. "Come to join this little soiree, have we?" |
Havenites | "I know you?" Dwight asked, frowning. "I don't care!" Jordan bellowed, reshouldering her rifle to aim at Nathan. "He dies now!" "Jordan!" Vince ordered. "Put the gun down." "Jordan," Dave said, much softer. "Remember it was Nathan who found you unconscious in that field. He explained your condition to the doctors so they could operate on you. He could have let you die, but he didn't!" Jordan didn't appear moved. "Maybe he should've." |
Octavia | ... Oh. Puzzle pieces locked together. Jordan had been one of Claire's patients. Or -- that was what Octavia had assumed, anyway. Much like she'd assumed Jordan had been the one to send Dwight tailing her, the only time they'd met. Her squinting mellowed to something quieter, and more steely, as she watched the situation unfold. |
Lucifer | "Can we please stop it with the pointing guns at each other," Lucifer said, heaving a sigh as he weaved between people until he found himself standing in front of Nathan. "It really is completely unnecessary." He wouldn't mind even a little bit if Nathan died, and yet even he was acknowledging as much! "I doubt it is what you actually want, either," he said, as he reached for the rifle. The situation could escalate at any moment, and if anyone here got shot, Duke would be upset, or worse, Duke would be shot. So the words just slipped out. After the whole incident with Duke, he did not expect them to work. "So tell me, what is it you truly desire?" |
Duke & Jordan | “Luce,” Duke hissed warningly. “I want to be normal,” Jordan said. Practically wailed, even. She shoved her gun at one of her goons and ripped her glove off. “I want my trouble gone!” She grabbed for Lucifer’s bare neck. |
Lucifer | Lucifer's hand shot up and caught her by the wrist, tilting his head, his eyebrow raised. "Well, shooting him or throttling me isn't going to help you." |
Jordan & Jennifer & Duke | Jordan stared at his hand on her wrist, then at Lucifer. “You can’t feel it?” She looked like that fact might make her knees buckle. “What does she mean?” Jennifer asked Duke. “Jordan’s like — a human taser. Her touch hurts most people. That’s her trouble. Luce . . . isn’t most people.” |
Lucifer | "Whatever weird little trouble you have?" Lucifer asked, as he let her wrist slip from his fingers. "No. I'm not human, darling." |
Octavia | Octavia's eyes darted from Lucifer to Duke. He didn't think it was necessarily the best idea to advertise that part, either, right? Even here, where 'human' could be a relative thing. |
Havenites | Duke didn’t love it, but he was under no illusions about how long Lucifer would be willing to keep it under wraps. “Yep, that’s right,” he said. “My boyfriend is the literal Devil. Surprising possibly none of you.” Dave blinked, mouth open. Vince frowned, but nodded slowly. Jordan looked like she wanted to cry, and Nathan looked stoic as ever. Dwight shook his head. “What.” |
Lucifer | The chances of reeling in Lucifer in any way were small to none, yes. Lucifer adjusted his jacket. "As I said, I'm Lucifer Morningstar, nice to meet you," he said, "Now can we please all stop attempting to put holes in one another? There's at least one or two humans here I actually care about." |
Octavia | Octavia looked briefly unimpressed. Then she shifted in place just a little, making sure Jennifer was still behind her. She wasn't exactly convinced this revelation - as much as the people around them actually even believed it - wouldn't make anyone more likely to try any stupid moves. |
Havenites | “That’s fine,” Jordan growled, collecting herself. “Just give me Wuornos and the rest of you can go.” “You start shooting,” Dwight said, pulling off his vest, “the only one you’ll hit is me. That what you want, Jordan?” Jordan snarled and threw her hands up in disgust. “You told us Duke was in the Barn with Audrey,” Vince said to Nathan, a dark tone in his voice. “When it was destroyed!” “He was,” Nathan said, then raised his voice, talking to the whole crowd. “Which means Audrey is still alive!” The Guardsmen reacted in shock, lowering their guns and muttering amongst themselves. |
Lucifer | "And it's all you'll be able to get him to talk about for the forseeable future, trust me," Lucifer said. |
Havenites | “Quiet!” Vince ordered, and the muttering amongst the Guardsmen stopped. He was clearly the man in charge here. “Where is she?” he asked. Nathan shook his head. “That’s why I came back. To find her.” Nathan scanned the crowd. “Audrey and I are going to end the troubles!” |
Lucifer | Lucifer sighed, shifting back until he found Duke. "We need to design some kind of drinking game around that obsession of his." |
Octavia | Octavia, for her part, was finally looking at Nathan again. It wasn't just to avoid making any comments on who else might share his obsession. (She was trying very hard not to think about that. Had been trying the entire time they'd been here.) |
Havenites & Jennifer | “We all want the troubles to end,” Duke said, flicking Lucifer a frown. “Audrey’s our best bet for that.” “Yeah,” Jordan said, glaring at him. “Her going into the Barn. Look how well that went.” “There’s another way,” Nathan said. He angled his head towards Jennifer. “This is Jennifer. She’s troubled, connected to the Barn somehow. She heard Audrey and Howard talking.” Jennifer fidgeted, looking uncomfortable, and shot a glance at Octavia. |
Octavia | Octavia caught it from the corner of her eye, but her gaze was flicking through the crowd around them. "And talking's all you're going to do with her, either," she announced, her voice like gravel. "So don't get any funny ideas." |
Lucifer | "Octavia's very stabby," Lucifer added helpfully. He tossed Duke another look. "I'm more 'throw-y', if anyone's going to get any funny ideas about making me take his histrionic nonsense seriously." |
Havenites & Jennifer | "Jennifer?" Nathan prompted, studiously ignoring Duke's partners. Jennifer swallowed and nodded slowly. "Howard told Audrey that there was another way that she could end the troubles." Her voice wobbled, showing her nerves. "Not just for 27 years, but for-forever." Vince frowned, listening intently. "How?" "By killing the person she loves the most." |
Lucifer | "Now that sounds downright Shakespearian," Lucifer muttered. |
Octavia | Was it bad that Octavia's first instinct was to wonder whether that person wasn't Audrey herself? (Her opinion on Audrey had really tanked after Duke's last visit. She couldn't help it.) She said nothing. Just looked tense. |
Havenites | That was as good a guess as any, really. “Is this some kind of sick joke?” Jordan asked. “Nathan’s telling the truth,” Dave said. “That’s exactly what Arla said when Vince and I were holding her prisoner!” “So you can kill me, Jordan,” Nathan said. “Get your revenge. Get to live the rest of your life troubled. Last touch you will ever get to feel will have been mine.” “Well,” Duke said, pointing. “Lucifer’s. Technically.” |
Lucifer | "Honestly I'd be happy to go back and touch her more thoroughly just to spite you," Lucifer added, "But I think my partners would be upset." He was not entirely sure who was the enemy here, but he was beginning to lean towards 'everyone except the spooked deer they picked up earlier'. |
Octavia | At least he and Octavia were largely in agreement about that? ... She still cast a dry little glance Lucifer's way after he spoke. |
Jordan & Nathan | Jordan let out a horrified noise that didn’t entire cover the sheen of longing in her expression. “I will find Audrey!” Nathan said, doing his best to ignore all of them now. “I’ll convince her to kill me. The troubles will end forever!” |
Octavia | ... Oh. Of course that was what he thought. Well. "Least you can do is let him try." |
Lucifer | "It would fix multiple problems," Lucifer agreed. |
Jordan & Duke | “You expect us to believe this?” Jordan asked. “Hey! Crazytown!” Duke wasn’t nearly as . . . enthusiastic as his partners about this plan, but he masked it well. “You know Nathan. You all do! All he’s ever wanted to do is protect Haven! And he’s willing to give his life to do that.” Or, you know, he had a death wish after being on the run for six months. Six, half-dozen, yadda yadda. |
Octavia | Octavia's head turned to watch him. For what was really the first time since they'd gotten here, ended up in this ambush situation. It was easy for her and Lucifer to say these things, and much, much less so for him. She knew that. But she was filing all of that away for later. For now, she was impassive. |
Lucifer | Lucifer wasn't nearly as thoughtful. He just snorted loudly. |
Duke & Dave | Duke's jaw twitched, but he didn't look over at them. "That's the craziest thing I ever heard!" Dave said. "Crazier than any of the other shit that's been going on around here?" Duke asked, spreading his arms. "And Nathan's saying he can end all that! And he's willing to give his life to do it." He dropped his arms in a shrug, looking at the gathered gang. "What do you all have to lose by letting him try?" This was, quite possibly, the stupidest thing he'd ever had to argue in favor of. |
Lucifer | Lucifer reached into his jacket and pulled out his flask. What? He had an exceptionally hard time coming up with a reason to get in the middle of this. Because seriously. It was Nathan. What did they have to lose, exactly? Of course, as he lifted his chin to take the big, contemplative sip of whiskey he deserved, his eye felt on something else. Something... grey and windy and ominous. "Hm," he said, lowering the flask. "Hello, inconvenient plot device..." |
Octavia | Octavia's eyes darted to Lucifer, then -- The sky. She had a bad feeling, like the air shifting around them, and her hands reached back on instinct, blindly. One for Duke, one for Jennifer. |
Duke & Nathan | Duke frowned at them both -- just before the sky abruptly darkened further. Just off in the distance up the hill, a funnel cloud started to form over a church steeple. "What the hell is that?" Duke muttered, not even realizing he was speaking. Nathan, on the other hand, snapped into cop mode. "Take cover. Everyone, take cover!" Duke spun, scooping Jennifer up with one arm and tugging on Octavia with the other, darting for the nearest, biggest truck to duck behind as debris filled the air. |
Lucifer | And left Lucifer as the only man standing upright, flask still in hand as he stared up into the clouds with a frown. "I didn't realize Maine had tornado season," he said, sipping from his flask as a chunk of metal flew right past his head. |
Octavia | "Lucifer!" It wasn't that Octavia - huddled behind the truck, now - wasn't perfectly aware that nothing here was likely to have any power to hurt him. It was reflex, to still feel like he should get the hell out of the way of a tornado. Not to mention any extra cover he might have been able to provide. But that thought was so secondary it barely registered. |
Nathan & Duke & Jennifer | "What the hell is he doing?!" Nathan asked. Duke pressed himself against the side of the truck and peered over. "I told you, he's the actual Devil." The funnel was getting long now, kicking up even more debris, and shaking the church on its foundations. The steeple creaked, and started to fall. "I DON'T LIKE IT HERE!" Jennifer shouted. |
Lucifer | Lucifer looked up at the church, and then back behind himself, at the others. At the church again, and-- "Bloody hell," he snarled, rushing towards the group by the tank. He wasn't really thinking much, beyond that the truck didn't offer a lot of upwards cover, and he wasn't sure where all that steeple debris would be going, and-- His wings unfolded from his back, spreading wide above the humans huddled behind all that metal and tires and whatnot. "Get down," he snapped. |
Octavia | Octavia swore in Trig, not that anyone was likely to hear it through the noise of everything around them. She was yanking Duke down, yes. |
Duke | Duke let her, making sure that Jennifer was in the most protected spot in the middle of the huddle. Nathan and Dwight, who'd both taken cover with them, spent a moment just gaping like fish before the crash of the steeple had them ducking down for cover, too. And, well, if the Teagues did their own gaping and cursing from behind their truck as well, that was their own business. Duke looked up at Lucifer, thanks and love in his eyes. "If this thing touches down. . . ?" He knew he and Octavia would make it out okay, thanks to Lucifer. But could he cover all of them? |
Lucifer | Angel wings were large and strong. They stretched out across the length of the lot of them, though Lucifer would make no apologies about the fact their more tapered edges covered Dwight and Nathan, while the broad midsections shielded the rest of them. "I have it handled, thank you," Lucifer said, tense. "Though I can't say much for this suit, and that's a bloody tragedy." |
Octavia | "We can worry about your clothes later!" Octavia yelled, looking past the edge of his wing at the sky, where the funnel was now right above them -- And then just... slid over them? And began to dissipate into nothing as it moved towards the water in the distance, until it was just gone, and the sky was clear again. |
Havenites & Jennifer | Duke slowly stood, peering over the edge of Lucifer's wing. Nathan followed suit shortly after. "What was that?" he asked. "Welcome home," Dwight muttered. He was giving Lucifer the fish eye. "Seriously? Wings?" "There was a tornado here!" Jennifer said. "Now there is no tornado! Seems like a bigger issue!" |
Lucifer | Lucifer shot Dwight a pointed look back. "Your counterpart had a lot less trouble handling 'angel, not human'," he said as he straightened himself. "Do try and keep up." |
Octavia | "Guessing this is a trouble thing," Octavia told Jennifer in a flat rasp as she was straightening up. "Like they said, welcome to Haven." She hated it here. |
Havenites | "If he's the Devil, why does't he have horns?" Dave asked, rushing over towards Duke. "Don't be foolish, Dave!" Vince said, coming up behind him. "The Devil was always one of the angels!" "Back to the tornado," Duke said. "This been happening a lot?" "No," Dwight said, still side-eyeing Lucifer, but setting his questions about the man aside. "No, this is something new." "Alright people!" Jordan barked. "Take Nathan and Crocker to the safe house and sit on them!" Aaaaand here came the men with guns again. |
Octavia | Octavia automatically tried putting herself between Duke and the nearest gun. "Seriously? You think that's even remotely an option?" |
Lucifer | Lucifer, his wings already retracting into his back, had much the same idea. Though it involved standing in front of both of them, seemingly casual. He was not. "And we've had the gun conversation," he said patiently, "If you don't put them aside, I will take them from you." |
Jordan & Duke & Dwight | “Those two have already ruined one chance I had to be normal,” Jordan hissed. “I’m not letting them do it again!” “To be clear,” Duke said. “I was for Audrey going in the Barn.” “You shot me!” “You shot Nathan!” “Hold up!” Dwight ordered. “You saw what happened at the bookstore this morning! I found another body down at the beach and whatever that was? I need Nathan and Duke’s help.” |
Octavia | "You're not putting them in a cage for that." Yes, she was kind of awkwardly half behind Lucifer. No, that wasn't going to stop her glaring at everyone. |
Lucifer | "There's not really a scenario where this ends with any of you walking off with Duke," Lucifer agreed. "Mr. Failure to Rise over there, on the other hand, I can take or leave." |
Havenites & Jennifer | “Nobody is walking off with anybody,” Duke said. “My partners and I are here to help find Audrey, that’s it.” “That’s all I’m here for too,” Nathan said. “You want me to convince the Guard you’d do anything for Haven?” Vince asked. “Even die? Maybe start smaller. Start now.” Nathan scowled. “Fine.” “Okay!” Duke clapped his hands. “Right. We’ll go solve the trouble. Jennifer, this might take a minute. You want to crash at . . . well, the Gull will be closed, but the apartment upstairs should be okay. . . .” “Is it safe there?” Jennifer asked. “I just want to be safe. Away from guns and tornadoes.” |
Octavia | Octavia hesitated for half a beat. And then rasped, "That's going to be relative everywhere in this town." Sorry, but she did not have the best impression. Especially not right now. "But I can go with you." She looked from Duke to Lucifer, and back again. "If you two stick together." |
Lucifer | "Wasn't actually planning to leave him to the wolves," Lucifer said. If people kept ignoring him around here, he really was going to start throwing them. |
Dwight & Duke | “Fine, whatever,” Dwight said, as Vince started order the Guard to check the surrounding area for casualties. “We’ll head to the police station, I can show you guys what I’ve got so far.” Duke let out a tiny sigh. “Home sweet home,” he muttered. |
Octavia | Octavia tried to catch his gaze. "I mean it, jaka," she said, quieter and just a little bit softer than she'd said anything since -- well, since they'd ended up here. "Yu na kamp raun oso skaifaya, ait?" So no, Lucifer, it wasn't your part in this she had any worries about. Haven had a way of getting to Duke. |
Duke & Dwight | It did, and Duke knew it. But he wouldn't be able to avoid it. "Sha, gona," he said, meeting her eye. "Skaifaya en ai throu daun ogeda." Dwight frowned. "What is that, Urdu?" |
Octavia | Octavia ignored him, and just nodded at Duke, appeased. She sent another look Lucifer's way (still softer, still letting some of that part of herself show through), then turned to Jennifer, faintly squaring her shoulders. "Time to go." |
Jennifer & Duke | Jennifer nodded a little jerkily, then flicked Duke a smile and hurried over to her. Octavia had very quickly come to mean "safety" in her head. Something about the woman just radiated "fuck with me and I will murder you". "Thanks." Duke smiled back, the very image of a protective older brother, then looked at Dwight. "Lead the way, 'Squatch." |
