The Cape Rouge, Port of Fandom, Monday afternoon

As tempting as it was to just stay in their little vacation bubble at sea, Duke and Octavia did have things to do back in Fandom now that the school break was over, so the Cape Rouge chugged back into port in the late afternoon to dock at her usual slip.

It was immediately beset by porgs.

"Alright, alright," Duke said, a laugh underlining the exaggerated annoyed tone of his voice. "I know, I know, how dare I exile you from your homes. I'm a cruel, cruel man."

"Exactly. Now imagine how they'd react if you suddenly showed up again after being gone for a few years. We were basically under a microscope. Hence ditching out and going camping instead."

"Sounds like a fun time," Bellamy said before shaking his head. It did not sound like a fun time at all. "At least you were memorable enough to be remembered?"

Duke let out a rueful snort. "I do like to make an impression, yeah. You want a tour or anything? I gather you didn't see a lot of boats back home."

"I didn't," Bellamy agreed before nodding. "Yeah, sure, show me your boat. Let's see what it's like."

"Yeah man, right on." Duke smiled and looked around. "So this is the deck, sort of a social-slash-storage space. That up there is the wheelhouse, where all the controls are for when we're at sea. And down this way are the staterooms. The actual living space."

"So, you could live on this thing for awhile if you wanted to?" Bellamy guessed.

Duke let out a small laugh. “I’ve been living on her for twelve years, man. Even got a roommate. Tavi didn’t tell you?”

"Tavi?" That's a new one. "Haven't heard her called that before. But no, she didn't really tell me."

“Huh. Most people that’s the first thing they think of. ‘There’s Duke, the boat guy.’ Of course, she’s not most people.”

"Why a boat, though?" he wondered. "Not afraid it'll sink?"

"Are you worried about your roof caving in?" Duke asked. "You take care of your home, she takes care of you. And -- I like boats. The ocean makes sense to me. And it doesn't make much sense to pay rent and docking fees."

"I used to worry about the Ark falling out of the sky when I was a kid but..." He shrugged. "Never really got a chance to have the ocean make sense to me so I can't relate."

"See, and spaceships freak me out. Guess it kind of comes down to what you're used to."

"You ever been on one?" Bellamy asked. "Here or anywhere else?"

"I have. My friend Rey flies one back home. I went out with her to help with a mission for her galactic rebellion. Which is very weird to say out loud."

"Galactic rebellion?" Well, someone has an interesting friend. "Only rebellion I've participated in is one back home. Wasn't galactic though. Just planetwide or close to it."

“Everything in her universe works on that scale. All their planets are made out of one climate, too. She grew up on a desert planet, we visited an ice planet, that sort of thing. Before that the closest I’d come to a rebellion was when we all decided to refuse to take a pop quiz in seventh grade.”

"Hm." He's missed a lot and though he knows that's on him, he's not exactly going to rush out and make up for it. "I don't think I'd like an ice planet. I don't want to freeze my balls off at night."

"Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it. I quite like being able to move between tropical and temperate."

"So, better you than me," he said oh so kindly. "Now, you be nice to my sister and I won't have to rip them off."

His balls, he means.

"You know I had to say it."

"You did." Duke nodded. Bellamy was not the first to threaten his manhood with regards to who he was dating. He'd even managed to do it pretty nicely. "I suspect she'd beat you to it, though."

"Probably," Bellamy agreed with a nod. "And she'd probably make it hurt a lot more than me too."

"You mean you didn't inherit the same killer instinct as your sister? Shame."

"I think she surpassed me a little while ago," he admitted. "I'll still kill you but she'll do it faster than me."

"Ah. Good to know. Well, you can rest assured, I have only the nicest of intentions towards your sister."
